Debut EP from electronic pop duo CONFESSIONS out in July

Announcing the debut EP from Boston-based electronic pop duo CONFESSIONS

:: “Your Girl” released digitally and on 12-inch vinyl off Vanya Records on Tuesday, July 23, 2013

:: Record release party and inaugural live performance at the Pill, Great Scott in Allston, on Friday, July 26, 2013

Summer flings take shape in many ways, and aren’t just limited to one-on-one love affairs. They can involve hidden getaway destinations, a burning personal desire, or simply your new favorite band sound-tracking all your life’s impulsive moves. Summer is a magical, care-free time of beach mornings, afternoon bliss in the city, and midnight bonfires, and the middle of Summer 2013 finds the release of “Your Girl,” the debut EP from Boston electronic pop duo CONFESSIONS.

Comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Amanda Dellevigne (Night Fruit) and drummer/producer Alex Garcia-Rivera (American Nightmare/Cold Cave), Confessions feature two veterans of the Boston music scene coming together to create a warm sound of synthesized dream-pop and infectiously melodic electronic pop. Klangfuld of Denmark called the demo cut of first single “I’ll Always Be Your Girl” a “laid back declaration of eternal devotion with a cool straightforward charm.”

Despite its electronic nature, the “Your Girl” EP was recorded 100-percent analog at Mystic Valley Recording Studio, without the use of digital editing, auto-tune, Beat Detective, or other robotic devices. There are no samples, drum loops or even razor edits — everything is played by the human hands of Confessions, often as one take through the entire song.

“Your Girl” drops Tuesday, July 23, 2013 off Vanya Records [VAN006], and is released both digitally and on limited-edition 12-inch vinyl. The EP includes four tracks: “I’ll Always Be Your Girl,” “Wonder,” “Confidence,” and “Daydream.”

The band’s record release party arrives a few days later, at Boston’s longest-running indie dance party, The Pill, at Great Scott in Allston, on Friday, July 26.

Pre-order is available now through Vanya Records’ Bandcamp (digital) and Big Cartel (vinyl) pages, and “I’ll Always Be Your Girl” can be streamed via  Soundcloud and YouTube.

Track Listing:

1. I’ll Always Be Your Girl

2. Wonder

3. Confidence

4. Daydream

Friends of Andre Obin compilation: the Boston music scene comes together for a cause

Nearly 20 Boston bands and artists have come together to raise money for André Obin, who is dealing with the aftermath of an electrical fire in his apartment and home studio. 100% of all funds raised from this compilationgo directly to our friend in need. More info after the BC jump. xo Michael

Thanks to all the bands who donated, the people who purchased, and the media who supported it. It’s currently #11 on Bandcamp’s Top Sellers. Mind blowing.

From the bio:

Andre Obin is a musician living, working, and creating in Boston, Massachusetts. On Wednesday, November 14, his Somerville apartment experienced an electrical fire, displacing him and his girlfriend and destroying his home studio space, some personal belongings, and a significant amount of musical gear and equipment he has used in his rock bands (Endless Wave, Eyes Like Knives), electronic projects (Matters & Dunaway) and as a “Soviet-bloc techno” solo artist (performing under his birth name).

This 18-track compilation has been curated to raise money for Obin to replace some of his lost gear and get back on his feet. It has been organized solely by his friends who wish to see him recover, both personally and professionally, and the breadth of the artists on this comp not only reflect his own his own musical output — from beautifully sharp electronic pop to noisy washes of -gazing rock and roll — but also the amount of people around Boston who wished to lend a hand to a colleague in need. Nearly all the artists here have performed, collaborated or exchanged support with Obin over the past few years. All of these bands are members of the Boston music community.

100% of the money earned via this compilation will be forwarded directly to Obin, and Vanya Records wishes to thank all the artists for their contributions after only a few days notice.

Also, a website has been created to detail Obin’s ordeal, chronicle recovery efforts, and to allow interested parties to make a donation directly. A detailed account of Obin’s music is featured on the site as well.

Bearstronaut "Paradice" EP out today!

It’s been a pretty great year for my little “hobby” of a record label, and today we release our 4th record of 2012 with Bearstronaut’s “Paradise” EP, available digitally and on 12-inch wintermint vinyl [VAN005].

This is the band that inspired me to start Vanya Records just 14 months ago, and I’m honored that a collection of songs this great is affiliated with anything I’m involved in.

Release party tonight at TT The Bear’s Place Inc with Animal Talk and friends. Dance it up.

Vice Magazine premieres the New Highway Hymnal single  → noisey.vice.com

Writes Luke O’Neil about “Out With The Lights,” the first single off new record WHISPERS: “It’s a horrific sprint through an isolated landscape, with guitars that roil and swarm like a kicked hornet’s nest, punctuated by Hadden Stemp’s tortured, soulful shrieks alternating with a J&MC leather-and-shades-posturing cool.”
